We are a small family.
Me, Silvia, an active and creative woman full of ideas, Alex, a ” bike & wine lover “, William, a happy child following homeschooling, enjoying nature and the diversity of this beautiful region, and our animals that make everyday life more animated.
I grew up with my grandmother Maria, and whenever I had a holiday, my parents put me on a plane to Portugal. In my childhood, I spent a lot of time with her in her beautiful stone house. She lived in the beautiful ‘Minho‘ region of northern Portugal, home of the famous Portuguese wine ‘Vinho Verde“. I have wonderful memories of those times when families spent all day working the land. A time where people had a healthy rhythm of life, beyond the hardships and austerity of farm lifestyle.
The years passed, she got sick and passed away in June 1999.
Even if we don’t see her, she still continues to be with us. Family members in the north of Portugal, thought we were going to live in the north of the country, but our destiny had other plans for us. The Alentejo region touched and inspired our hearts and souls.
In 2018 we finaly found the piece of dream that we were missing – a piece of land in the Alentejo that would become our new life project. A cozy “monte” (farm in portuguese) of the ’50s that we decide to renovate with love.
The passion of nature and animals, the teachings we have received over the years and much self-study, were enough to motivate us to take risks and go further with this project.
The “Monte da Avó Maria” arises because of the need to be surrounded by people, to meet new people and to open the doors of our house, and our history, to the World.
Today, Alex, William, me, and also all our animals, we are ready and more than happy to welcome you.
